Piece of Cake

Today's my brother's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!) and I told him he could pick a cake from the cookbooks I got for my birthday. So what does he do: he picks a white chocolate mousse cake, a cake of the most difficult category... It doesn't quite look like the picture from the book (the custard is nowhere to be found), but my dad, aunt and Steven said it tasted good...

Here the custard mix is still visible

A dab of whipped cream, some chocolate curls...

Ace of cakes

DSC05446
My friend Margreet is getting married next month and we had a cake workshop as part of her bachelorette party. I had so much fun that day, our cakes almost look like they can appear on the show 'Ace of Cakes' haha.

Pudding

Made some chocolate bread pudding, since I was craving the Dessert Truck's chocolate bread pudding. It doesn't quite taste like the Dessert Truck's, but it's alright...

Looks aren't everything...

Year of the Tiger

新年快樂, 身體健康! Happy Chinese New Year! Since Chinese New Year coincided with Valentine's Day this year, I thought it would be fun to make some 'collaboration-style' cookies ;)

Oreo

My lovely friend Dung is sadly moving back to Norway and Lil, Lu, Zendy & I made a chocolate Oreo cheesecake for her surprise farewell party. The cake was a big hit, very delicious, but incredibly rich; it was heavy like a brick!

Chocolatey Christmas

Merry Christmas, hope you had a great one, spent with family and friends! Made some brownies with Wing, from a box bought in New York that I still had... Don't worry, we're still here and it tasted delicious, really nice and fudgy!

Not exactly a brownie shape, but it works...

Made a strawberry cheesecake with my cousin Vivien (from a box though). Seriously gotta improve my piping skills...

Powerpuff

DSC03445
Wing & I were craving creampuffs, but since the nearest Beard Papa's is across the pond, we decided to make them ourselves! On our first attempt the puffs didn't have the right consistency. Turns out I was busy converting '1 cup' into ml and grams, I forgot the recipe only needed half a cup of flour and a half cup of water (doh!). So we made another batch of cream puffs (chocolate this time) with the right amount of ingredients and they were airy and fluffy! Since the recipe only makes about 8 puffs, we decided to make a third batch with the intention of making it even more perfect. However, this time the custard didn't set :( I think maybe it was because we tried to use powdered sugar instead of regular sugar. In the end we added more flour to thicken the custard. Not quite perfect, but still yummy...

Red Velvet

DSC03426
I must confess this Red Velvet Cake was made with a Duncan Hines mix (was surprised they sell it here in NL), I made the butter cream frosting from scratch, though. I didn't put a lot of frosting, because I was afraid it would be too sweet (you know Americans like everything with way too many sugar...) and all that butter isn't exactly healthy ha. Turns out the cake wasn't too sweet at all, so next time I'll remember to put on a very thick layer...

Not one...

but two layers...

Bang Bang

A while back, I got the chance to go to a firing range! We were shooting with three different guns (don't ask me about the exact names and types...) The first one was a big rifle, the ones you also have at a fair. The second one was a semi-automatic gun and the third was a big revolver. For the first and second guns each, we were given ten bullets to shoot, the last one only five. It was really a pity, I was just warming up when I was done shooting. Funny story: I had to shoot at target #2 (there were 5 targets), but the targets were hung a bit strange. I just shot at the target right in front of me and after two shots I realised I shot at target #3. So I quickly changed to target #2. When we were done shooting with the rifle, it turned out that Jeremy (who stood on my left) also shot at my target! There were a lot of hits on that target, but no idea which one were Jeremy or mine ;) The picture above is of the target I shot with the revolver. Three out of five, not bad right? It was really fun! Unfortunately no pictures were allowed. It had something to do with a criminal, who always went there, got shot or something...

So no picture of me being badass with a gun, but here a picture of a lemonpie I made after I went shooting ahahahaha.

Baked

I had a 'bake date' with my friends Liliane, Lu & Zendy recently. I can already hear Richard:'Oh so NOW you're baking huh?' ;) We made a chocolate raspberry & blueberry cake and 'Coffee & cream profiteroles', which are basically cream puffs. The cake looked alright, although it didn't quite turn out as the one in the cookbook. The recipe wasn't accurate (I swear!), but it was still pretty tasty. The profiteroles however, were a bit heavy and didn't have enough cream in it.
